Mayor Henderson teams up with BikeWalkLee for successful "show and tell ride"

Kudos to Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson for teaming up with BikeWalkLee's Dan Moser and Ann Pierce to host another in BWL's series of "show and tell" rides to educate local officials and staff about the good, bad, and ugly of our biking and walking facilities.

The group listen's to Dan Moser, leader of the ride.
As Dan Moser reported in his April 16th Florida Weekly column, BikeWalkLee hosted a "Show and Tell Ride" with the City of Fort Myers to look at issues with safe and comfortable access to the downtown area.

Dan reported in his column the following:
Bob Gardner with Councilman Banks and Donna Clarke
"On the Fort Myers ride, a group of around 20 left the city hall parking lot just after the evening rush hour, heading first to the south along the Broadway/Jackson corridor. It then moved toward the Dunbar neighborhood, followed by routes leading to Palm Beach Boulevard neighborhoods as well as access to the Edison Bridge leading to North Fort Myers.
Finally, the group experienced West First Street, which is the primary access that leads to local streets serving as alternatives to McGregor Boulevard, which I’ve featured in the past as one of our area’s not so bike-friendly roadways. A number of excellent suggestions were gleaned from the group, many of which could be quickly implemented at reasonable costs. These recommendations that will improve safety and access by bicycle to the city center will be put forth formally to city leaders. BikeWalkLee member Ann Pierce and Mayor Randy Henderson are to be commended for making this very informative and potentially productive outing happen."

BikeWalkLee's Darla Letourneau spoke at the MPO Board meeting on April 18th and thanked Mayor Henderson for his leadership on this initiative and for the follow-up planned.  She also suggested that other cities take advantage of this opportunity to team up with BikeWalkLee to learn more about their local facilities on a similar "show and tell ride" led by Dan Moser and Ann Pierce.  Cape Coral Councilman Burch thanked BikeWalkLee for making a difference in our community.
