Darla Letourneau, a Sanibel resident and member of the BikeWalkLee Steering Committee, was honored by a proclamation by the Sanibel City Council at the council's meeting Tuesday, Jan. 6, at City Hall.

Letourneau was presented the Citizen Bike Advocate of the Year Award from the Florida Bicycle Association on Nov. 21. The FBA awards are presented to worthy recipients for their contributions to cycling.

Team BikeWalkLee was recognized by the FBA for its contributions in making Lee County a better place for cyclists and pedestrians. It consists of 62 support organizations working with various county and city elected officials, staff and committees.
“Lee County is a better place for cyclists and pedestrians because of the work of Darla and the BikeWalkCoalition,” said Becky Afonso, FBA executive director.
The proclamation honoring Letourneau was read by Sanibel Mayor Kevin Ruane.
