The Sanibel Bicycle Club has received a $2,000 grant from Bike Florida.  The grant was formally presented to the club on Saturday, November 10, by Tim Bustos, executive director of the Florida Bicycle Association, at the site of the Shared Use Path Welcome Center that was opened by the bike club earlier this year.

Bike Florida is a non-profit organization created to promote bicycle tourism within the state and to make Florida safer and more bicycle-friendly.  It is a major sponsor of the Share-the-Road campaign, an effort to promote the responsible use of Florida roadways by pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists.

According to club president Mike Miller, the club will use the funds to pay remaining construction and upkeep costs of the welcome center and to promote safe bicycling on Sanibel.  He adds that information about the Club can be found on their website.

The new welcome center is located on the Periwinkle bike path between Huxter's and She Sells Sea Shells.
