What are your comments on BikeWalkLee's recommendations to make streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists?

To make Lee County's streets safer for all users, our ped safety report laid out specific actions that we urge Lee County officials, agencies, and others in the community to consider in five broad areas:

4. Enhance enforcement of existing laws
1) Well-publicized strategic enforcement of existing laws on pedestrian and cyclist safety by the Lee County Sheriff's Office and local law enforcement agencies is often the best way to educate the public about the rules and to promote voluntary compliance.

What are your comments? Stay turned for the next in the series of recommendations.

Fiscal responsibility would mandate connecting existing bike/walk paths before starting new ones. North end of County, Rte. 41 has numerous unconnected sections of paths. The money to construct them (including the new section built last year in front of the new horse park)is a total waste until they are connected. I am amazed that the decision makers don't see this and continue to waste our money.

  2. This is an important point. The countywide bike/ped master plan now under development will focus on identifying all these gaps & coming up with a plan to fill the gaps. Filling these gaps is the key to having a connected system. I've shared your comments with the MPO staff and consultant working on the master plan. Thanks for sharing your comments.
