Lee County's Sustainability Plan comes to County Commissioners workshop August 5th

BikeWalkLee is excited to see the County's Sustainability Plan, the culmination of a two-year planning effort involving a broad array of community partners and citzens, coming to the Board for adoption.  Let Commissioners know you support this Plan before their August 5th workshop.

Lee County’s Office of Sustainability will present a draft of the community’s first comprehensive sustainability plan, called completeLee: Sustainability Plan, at the Board of County Commissioner’s Management & Planning meeting on August 5th, 2013 at 1:30 pm.

The plan brings together goals aimed at improving Lee County’s quality of life, promoting a community where residents, visitors, and businesses will want to live, work, learn and play forever.

The Plan is the result of significant public input. It incorporates key policies and programs, including the County’s Complete Streets policy, and assigns performance measures and actions to assist in understanding if local efforts are having the intended impact.   Using the plan, the county can prioritize goals, capitalize on opportunities, promote efficiency, coordinate operations, save tax dollars and foster innovation.

BikeWalkLee encourages you to write Commissioners in advance of the August 5th meeting to voice your support for the Sustainability Plan.  The draft Plan will be posted on the county's website on July 29th as part of the M & P agenda packet.

Final action will be taken on the Plan by BoCC later in August.

Complete Streets are an integral part of this Sustainability Plan and BikeWalkLee has participated in its development as part of our participation in the County's Community Sustainability Advisory Committee.  This Plan is the culmination of efforts over the past two years, which we've reported on:  First, the development of a Sustainability Assessment in the Spring of 2012, then a public workshop in the Spring of 2013 and a "Town Hall" online tool to get citizen input for the Plan; and just last month, a video was released with Lee County business and community leaders talking about importance of sustainability for our community.  Click on the previous BWL blog stories:
