LeeTran has been named “Outstanding Transit System of the Year” by the Florida Public Transportation Association. The association praised LeeTran for “demonstrating efficiency and effectiveness for the public transportation industry." The award is based on the past three years of operations. Criteria include ridership, fleet maintenance, community involvement, and safety and security. A significant factor in LeeTran’s selection was that LeeTran’s ridership has increased steadily for 26 consecutive months; for the most recent fiscal year, the jump was 17 percent, for a total of 3.76 million riders.
