The improvements to Corkscrew Road east of I-75 (actually
Ben Hill Griffin and East) have been completed. Some Caloosa Rider members rode East on Alico
all the way until it curves South into Corkscrew, and then all the way West
to Ben Hill Griffin on Sunday, and the improvements have made a real
difference in providing safety for the cyclist as well as a smooth surface to
ride on. The 6 foot wide shoulders have been marked or designated as a
bike lane with signs at each mark. Most of Corkscrew has been divided
now, with a grassy median in between and left hand turn lanes. This
assists the motorists in exiting their communities and also creates safer
travel for them.
We're looking forward to similar improvements to the
interchange area with I-75 (Ben Hill Griffin to Three Oaks), which would
allow for the southern connection on the University Loop as well as provide a
safe link between Ben Hill Griffin and Three Oaks.
